Biography on Sandra Cisneros
The author behind "The House on Mango Street"
Sandra Cisneros was born here, in the U.S. Her father was born in Mexico; her mother was Mexican-American. As a young girl, she was really shy and didn't really know how to express herself. She soon came across writing. Once she grew older, she then wrote "The House on Mango Street" with a character similar to her when she was also a young, lonely, and growing girl who was trying to find a "place" of her own - just like an autobiography. Through this, most people thought that she was Esperanza, but really she wasn't. She was her through some attributes, but she didn't go through those events. Some of them, yes; but all of them, no. She was just a part of Esperanza for there are other people in the world that make up the other parts of what she is - a fledgling trying to survive the world as we know it.
